‘Emma supported my development by taking time to immerse herself in my process and offer creative inquiry from within, getting excited about it alongside me. It was invaluable to have her to bounce off of, as a critical eye, an experienced choreographer, and a consistent wellbeing support. Emma helped me to situate my practice somatically, advocating for my own feeling and capacity as I make work; as well as professionally. I want her in the room all the time!’ - Bishop may down, 2025
I’m interested in the methodology of accompaniment and offer artists critical support in order to help mobilise performance works in the devising stages. I tend to refer to this practice as ‘dance dramaturgy’ because I mostly support dance works; with an emergent dramaturgy model, detached from institution. In this role I give artists feedback from a consistent, kind and critical outside-eye perspective, whilst advocating for their practice; in order to build a robust conceptual landscape. I bring a combination of choreographic experience (undergrad, 2015), the distinct culture of fine art critique (postgrad, 2022) and the crucial skill of hosting; something I have developed through working in community and activist settings - where attentive listening, understanding of positionality and emotional articulation are essential. I offer a holistic and nurturing environment for work that feels most urgent to the maker(s).
