As artist in residence at Timespan in July 2025, I delivered a talk and workshop about my foraged hi-vis practice to local participants. The presentation was about my intersecting enquires into the aesthetics of emergency, anarcha-feminist philosophy and performance practice towards collective grieving, with its roots in community crisis management and folkloric rituals. The workshop included sewing, semaphore and a walk outside with the flags they’d made. The group had a big discussion about grieving, class and trespass and declared themselves ‘The Socialist Republic of Helmsdale’ before deciding on their word of choice, to learn in semaphore: S~H~A~R~E, which they performed on the beach. Additionally, Timespan, who sponsored my trip to the Young Artist Biennale to present my windsock on the border of Slovenia and Italy in Nova Gorica (May 2025), have commissioned a large windsock with flagpole, to display permanently in Helmsdale.
