Insistence: A Butch Ballet
In collaboration with Bishop May Down, we are developing a new socially-engaged ensemble dance project that represents butch identity and experience through the queering and de-centring of conventional dance modalities unison and canon. The initial research and development of Insistence: A Butch Ballet will take place in June during our Tramway X Take Me Somewhere residency; where our studio research will focus on developing an accessible and adaptable devising framework to share with collaborators, allowing them to build a choreographic container for working with butch participants to generate material. At the end of the residency we’ll host a public workshop to test the model: Saturday 20th June
