Falmouth University

I studied Choreography at Falmouth University. This was an eye-opening, experimental course (originally based at Dartington), on which I learned a lot about choreographing for screen, for the outdoors, for live performance works and built on the foundations of contemporary dance techniques, somatics and yoga. Below are some examples of the work made at that time (2012-15).

Images from our final major project at Falmouth; The Ophelia Complex was performed and choreographed my myself, Kala Kate Gill and Becki Nevin.
The Ophelia Complex is a work by and about women and their experience of earth. This is a literal exploration of soil as a natural material and a provocation on the woman (Ophelia) as mythical, wretched, bewitched, outcast, hysterical. The ‘O’ in the title is particularly symbolic as the dancers delve into the cyclical, sexual, total, softened, united idea of the ‘woman’ as feminist.

My first delve into film making…
Exploring the relationship between sound and visuals in reference to texture, Kammas looks at contrast and correlation between two worlds. The sound captures a world we may not take into account as layered clips of quiet, humming activity overlap and crash together. The visual world echoes this relationship of 'surreal meets mundane' as static figures are altered to look lively, and vice versa; challenging expectations through patience and (un)predictability. Kammas is the cornish word for 'bend or bay, on coastline'.

Boxybox was a collaborative film for Mia Angelos' final fine art degree show. I acted as both choreographer and performer, alongside Mia, who’s concept was influences by Yves Klein, feminist theory and oppressive structures, such as capitalism.
